These designs are colored pencil originals by Sr. Brid, a monk at Community of Peace. Each mandala is a visual prayer, born from silence. Many are inspired by Gospel stories, by beloved Saints, by dreams and by nature.

These designs have been created over the last 14 plus years of my spiritual journey. I’m now a monk committed to God and to Community of Peace for the rest of my life and I have a new name, Sr. Brid (pronounced Breed). I continue to create mandalas.  They come to me spontaneously from a kind of contemplative imaging. It’s always been and still is very exciting for me when a new image begins to form. It comes in surprisingly different ways each time and my experience reflects that. The process of bringing the vision to life is where some talent comes in. Initially there was a lot of trial and error then finally discovery of good techniques to create something beautiful and alive.  I begin with a circle and let the design flow using good quality colored pencils on my favorite Paper.  A question I’m asked a lot is “do you draw everything freehand?”  No, I don’t. My desire is to create what is lovely, life giving and healing, images that inspire creativity.  I will use whatever tools can help that happen.  And yes, depending on the design, most of the drawing is freehand.  They are a reflection of my unique spiritual journey and as such they give me much joy.
