Our Life Is A Song. 🕊️

Inspired by the Taizé tradition and rooted in the ecumenical love of Christ, the Community of Peace is a sacred sanctuary in the woods of Louisa, VA. We are a kaleidoscopic mix of seekers, monks, and neighbors gathering to share meals, practice reconciliation, and witness to a unity that transcends all boundaries.

Our Mission

Join Our Live Prayer ~

Find your center in the sound. Every evening at 7:00 PM, we gather online to quiet the noise of the world and lift our voices for peace. Enter into a live, contemplative rhythm of chant and silence from wherever you are. If your soul needs a deep breath, pull up a chair and join our global circle in real-time.

A Song for Peace, A Stand for Justice

We believe beauty can change the world. At the Community of Peace, we offer a daily sung prayer for global healing and a radical welcome to all, regardless of means. We bridge divides through brave dialogue and stand in active solidarity with the marginalized. From anti-racism to climate justice, we are dedicated to the urgent work of renewing our churches, our society, and our Earth.

The Global Heart of Peace

At the Community of Peace, we are building a global family that transcends borders—from Virginia to Palestine and beyond. We provide a 'sacred container' where singing with one voice allows us to bridge cultural and religious divides. In a world fractured by misinformation and hate, we offer the antidote: a beloved community dedicated to deep listening, the power of nonviolence, and the radical idea that no one is ever rejected. Join us as we experiment with a more just and loving way of living together."

The Sound of Peace

This is our heart in prayer. 🕊️

Ever wonder what it sounds like when our community gathers? Dive into “All Shall Be Well,” a soulful composition by Brother Stefan that has captivated world-class artists and thinkers alike. It’s more than a song—it’s a sanctuary.

The Wellspring of Peace: Our Taizé Roots

We believe in returning to the source. The Community of Peace finds its roots in the hills of Taizé, France, where thousands of young people gather to discover a life-giving trust. From its humble beginnings as a refuge during World War II, Taizé has shown the world that reconciliation is possible through communal labor, sacred chant, and the power of shared silence [01:30], [07:07]. We are bringing this 'Pilgrimage of Trust' to Louisa, VA—carrying forward the legacy of Brother Roger by building a place where repetitive prayer quiets the noise, questions are welcomed, and every heart finds a home in the Church of Reconciliation [02:11], [09:03].

One World ... Many Friends ❤️

One World ... Many Friends ❤️

Work, prayer, and a table that knows no borders! Our community has been transformed by a global parade of friends, each bringing the light of their homeland into our house. We’ve hosted the world, yet our table always has room for more. No matter the flag, no matter the distance—you have a seat here.

Walking the Path Together. A joy to host the Walk for Peace crew for our annual retreat. We believe peace is a practice—found in the prayers we share, the meals we serve, and the miles we walk together.

  • A place of peace and rest that allows you to meditate, contemplate and reflect on what God’s speaking to you. Also, Brother Stefan and the entire house are wonderfully open-hearted people to ALL. Make sure you enjoy one of their song and prayer sessions. 🙏 ✝️☪️🕉️☮️💟🕎☯️☦️✡️

  • This is more than just a monastic community. It’s one that lives what Jesus taught as much as they are able and it’s more than enough. It’s felt by visitors as welcoming, caring, accepting. I felt right at home from the time I arrived. And the 260+ acres are both beautiful and peaceful.

    — Barbara Miller

  • Community of Peace is a place not like any other. There are great people, awesome trails to hike, a creek to meditate at, a labyrinth to find your way. It's an amazing and beautiful place for healing.

  • Community of Peace is a place where the broken-hearted, the down-trodden, the people who have been beat up by life can come and be renewed with music, conversations, pristine forests, and the love of truly amazing humans. Community of Peace is also a place where singer-songwriters, musicians, artists, craftspeople, and healing arts practitioners can come together and share their gifts. Community of Peace is a sacred space to work together, grow together, support each other, and share divine love.

    — Suzannah Beil

  • A peace place to pray ,meditation and nature walk in the trails around the community. They have people all over the world and the food is unique and delicious every day.

  • Under the guidance of Stefan Andre Waligur, our students experienced a joyful and meditative approach in our search for wholeness and meaning...a remarkable journey to the innermost parts of the soul.

    — Rev. Joseph Eldridge, University Chaplain, American University

  • Community of Peace is a quiet, laid back and beautiful place in rural central Virginia. Mostly wooded compound has several trails you can walk, with a steam meandering across the property. There are monks living there that welcome you with open arms. If you come to stay there for a short or a long visit, you will enjoy a daily community dinner prepared by one of the residents or visitors. You will need to volunteer four hours of your time on weekdays to help with the running of the property with any skills you have. There is prayer and meditation three times a day and singing and discussions too. Ìt is a beautiful experience to live in a community setting and spend time in nature away from city life.

    — Mulu A.

  • Br. Stefan’s music and sensitivity brings us into the very heart of prayer, the beginning of the inner journey.

—Mary Cosby, co-founder Church of the Saviour Washington, D.C.

  • ... absolutely breath-taking...powerful is not even near to the right word. Everybody should have a chance to hear and then hear again and again. Thank you so much!

    — Phyllis Tickle, Author/ Scholar and Fellow at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C

  • Community of Peace is a place of much peace. And joy. It is a monastic community with sung prayer 3 times a day, community meals, and a daily meeting where all check in with each other. All the residents, some visitors and some permanent, are consistently welcoming, joyful and loving. A place where people learn to live the love of God that Jesus taught.

    —Tim Bickel

  • Absolutely love this place! It really lives up to it’s name. Every time I’ve entered this space, I’ve felt welcomed and loved. As a monastic community, the focus is on sung prayer and silence, which I love. After being there for a couple of weeks, and leaving, I tried to continue the practice, but it felt like I was missing an important piece...the people there. The thoughtful conversations. I’m excited to be staying there again, this time along with my family. I’m excited to see the community grow and to share the love of Jesus.

  • Community of Peace grounded in such beautiful music is a gift beyond measure, opening portals into the stillness of contemplative life.

Rev. Barbara Holmes, Core Faculty Center for Contemplation and Action in Albuquerque, NM

  • I have family friends in the Navy who run a farm while not on duty. This kind of work helped fill me up at meals and with snacks and let me take a breather from 'urban type' double-talk; it helped me realize I'm more of a rural and village type. Now I'm here; I feel like I'm home.

    — William

  • This place is very sigma, I've never felt any skibidi energy here! There is lots of 67 when it comes to communities, but this place is a whole new level of 67! (☞゚ヮ゚)☞☜(゚ヮ゚☜)

    — Denzel (11)

  • The nightly community-focused activities are nice moments for open discussion and bonding. The songs are warm. The space is healthy and has so much potential.

    — Chase

  • Community of Peace is a charming setting for prayer and personal reflection. Having spent a week here I feel as though I have found a hidden treasure in this vast beautiful land and all the good that comes from it. The generosity and kindness of the people in this community to so warmly share their treasure with outsiders gives credit to God and benevolence of Christians. I feel so blessed to have found this place.

    — Charlie

  • It's that time of year when we get to share that extra thanks we have for all that is wonderful in this world. This year, I'd like to thank all the beautiful people at Community of Peace for their lovely hospitality and inviting spirits. My two week stay was relaxing, peaceful and entertaining (Thanks to Br. Stefan's beautiful music). I very much look forward to when the universe brings me back for another visit. Peace and love to all 💜
